Luis N. Colón is a native New Yorker. He attended Aviation High School and then joined to the United States Marine Corps where he served for 10 years.  After serving in the U.S.M.C., he completed his bachelor of Business Administration at the College of Santa Fe, N.M. and entered the University of New Mexico School of Law. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1985 and entered the United States Navy as a Judge Advocate General Officer (JAG).  He served at the Naval Legal Services Office, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He worked as a criminal defense attorney, prosecutor, Staff Judge Advocate and was appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii prosecuting crimes committed on federal property.  He returned to New Mexico and joined the Legal Bureau of the State of New Mexico and later joined the firm of Butt, Thornton and Baehr, practicing as a defense attorney handling civil rights defense, employment law, complex tort litigation and governmental entities defense.

He continued his military service in the United States Naval Reserve and has recently retired as a Commander, United States Navy. His duties included service as Commanding Officer, Naval Legal Services Office, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and as Staff Judge Advocate to Naval Special Warfare Group-1 (SEALS), San Diego, CA.

Mr. Colón returned to New York and currently practices with Del Valle & Associates as Of Counsel practicing criminal law (state and federal court) civil rights and trials.

Mr. Colón is admitted in New York State, Federal District Court Southern District of New York (SDNY), Eastern district of New York (EDNY) and Western District of New York, Federal District Court, District of New Mexico, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and U.S. Court of Military Appeals.
